Was she fired for blogging and blogging alone? I doubt. I think its merely about Delta Airline identity - Brand if you will.

Let’s be honest - “we - The Blogosphere” are from the same tribe, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t see trough what it’s all about.

Of course there are different angles to the story and of course it gets more space in the media because of the general hype about weblogs, ethics, policy what-so-ever.

But as I see it right now Ellen Simonetti has done everything she could to strengthen here Career Limiting Move - CLM. As a manager I would suggest her to stay away, maybe stay into blogging.

Ohhh yes - she got her self 15 minutes of fame.

  1. Also add to that, that Delta actually is very micromedia-friendly. As to what Locke states in his recent book, Gonzo Marketing, is that Delta Air Lines actually gave their employees personal computers for free (and internet connection) in order to create some sort of viral marketingeffect. She is just a part of that, if they wanted to fire her because of her blog they’d be ludicrous.

  2. Hans, her situation does raise one point worth making where employee blogs are concerned. There needs to be policies in place regarding what bloggers can and can’t say.

    I’m not into censorship, but the employee that blogs about his/her company does so at their own risk, even in the best of circumstances.

    I’m no expert at this by a long shot, but it seems to me that set policies would serve to protect both the interests of the blogger and the company.

    As employee blogging gets more popular, we’ll see such policies put in place. The attorneys will see to that.

  3. Paul;

    I agree that a set of Policies is nessesary.
