WAAAAUUU….think of the power of Open Source. It must be scaring for traditional business.
Over the weekend, the Ruby on Rails website updated their still-new logo with a version that one of their readers had “remixed” from the source file. Ruby on Rails is an open-source web application framework, and so I guess in the spirit of open-source, they figured the logo ought to be up for grabs, too. This is the first time I’ve seen this happen; even logos for other open-source projects haven’t been subjected to this kind of evolution as far as I know. John Hicks, who designed both icons, has a short post about his work on the Firefox icon. Are there other examples of “open-source graphic design”?
No?
